Understanding Roofing Warranties and Guarantees

When you invest in a new roof, you want to make sure that it will last for many years to come. Understanding the warranties and guarantees that come with your new roof is essential to ensure that you are protected against any potential issues. Here’s what homeowners in Southern Idaho need to know about roofing warranties and guarantees.

Roofing Warranties

A roofing warranty is a guarantee from the manufacturer that the materials used in your new roof are free from defects and will perform as expected for a certain period. Most roofing warranties range from 10 to 50 years, depending on the type of roofing material and the manufacturer. This warranty will usually degrade. Most warranties will have a non prorated and a prorated period. While a contractor may claim the shingle has a 50 year warranty, and it is technically true, the more accurate truth is that for the first (often 10 years) the warranty will pay for the material in full in case of a defect. However, after this non prorated period the warranty will begin to diminish in value for the next 30 years (again typically) until the prorated period ends and the warranty will remain at roughly 20% of the material cost.

It’s important to understand that a roofing warranty only covers defects in the materials used in your roof. It does not cover damage caused by improper installation or external factors like severe weather or fallen debris. Make sure you understand the terms and limitations of your roofing warranty before signing any contracts.

Roofing Guarantees

A roofing guarantee, also known as a workmanship warranty, is a guarantee from the roofing contractor that the installation of your new roof is free from defects and will perform as expected for a certain period. Most roofing guarantees range from one to ten years, depending on the contractor.

Unlike a roofing warranty, a roofing guarantee covers defects caused by improper installation, such as leaks or other issues. However, it does not cover damage caused by external factors like severe weather or fallen debris.

It’s important to choose a reputable roofing contractor who offers a strong workmanship warranty to ensure that your new roof is installed correctly and any issues are addressed promptly.

Combined Warranties

Some roofing manufacturers offer combined warranties that cover both the materials and installation of your new roof. These warranties can provide added peace of mind, but it’s important to understand the terms and limitations of the warranty before signing any contracts. As a PreferredPro contractor, Omega Roofing, has the highest rating PABCO gives for certified contractors. This allows Omega Roofing to offer a 50 year non-prorated warranty on materials which includes removal, disposal, new material, and installation of any defective products. Also it will allow a 25 workmanship warranty backed by PABCO.

Conclusion

Understanding the warranties and guarantees that come with your new roof is essential to ensure that you are protected against any potential issues. Make sure you read and understand the terms and limitations of your roofing warranty and guarantee before signing any contracts.
